Health Promotion Program

North Richmond Community Health Centre has an innovative and dynamic health promotion program. The approach to health promotion is guided by the following vision:

North Richmond Community Health Centre is a health-promoting agency where health promotion is integrated and owned across the organisation. Our aim is to improve health and wellbeing by working in partnership with community and relevant stakeholders. Our approach to health promotion:

  • Is driven by a social model of health and
  • Reflects the cultural and social diversity of our community.

For 05-08 the Health Promotion program will target its efforts on 3 key priority areas:

  • Richmond Housing Estate - engage with and build the capacity of the Richmond Estate Community
  • Healthy Eating
  • Physical activity

In working towards improving health The Health Promotion programs coordinates many group activities:

  • Social connectedness through English conversation skills
  • Line dancing
  • Homework support for secondary students
  • Gentle exercise for elderly Chinese and Timorese community members
  • Walking group

Some participant reflections from their involment in the social connectedness through English conversation group include:

"I've been coming to the group every week because I think my English is improving. I also like the atmosphere, the teachers and opportunity to make some new friends." (male participant)

"The group is very well organised and enjoyable. The curriculum is simple and practical.I don't feel afraid to come to class because I know that it is not hard to understand the teachers.I feel very luck to be here." (male participant).
