PDRS Program

Target Group

Those individuals who reside in the City of Yarra who have a psychiatric disability or illness, and are aged between 16yrs and 65yrs.

Program Aim

To enhance the confidence, self esteem, independence and quality of life to those individuals living with a psychiatric Illness in the City of Yarra by:

  1. Ensuring a flexible home-based client focused service.
  2. Supporting linkages for clients in accessing the broader community, its services and activities, therefore decreasing isolation.
  3. Normalizing activities of daily living
  4. Providing a culturally and linguistic sensitive service.
  5. Community focused.
  6. Acknowledging the importance of significant others.

Program Profile

The Learning Things Program is a home-based intensive Living Skills Training Program that targets those people who live in the City of Yarra who have a Psychiatric illness.

This includes people with a multitude of issues, some fall through the gaps as a result of language, cultural or religious differences. Many of these people or their significant others have little understanding of mental health; some are not linked into the appropriate services and may suffer from isolation.

The program aims to improve the health and development of this group by complementing the work other community and psychiatric services. The program is based on a developmental model using daily living skills as its base, this involves intensive individual work, over time the client improves on their skill base, confidence and independence, which leads to better communication and increases community linkages.

This done through outreach, rehabilitation, support, advocacy and community education.
